The Basics

Welcome to this online application mini-course! Here you will learn about blogs, which are a convenient, user-friendly, and highly accessible way to communicate with staff, colleagues, students, parents, and the greater school community.
Please feel free to email or call me at any time during the course for help, comments, etc.

The Basics
  • A blog is an example of a Web 2.0 tool, which is an online site or program that typically focuses on increased ease of communication and collaboration.
  • The tools we'll explore are free. There are usually programs that charge money for more advanced features, but you'll likely not need these.
  • We're looking at blogging because:
    • It makes communication instant and available from any computer or smart phone
    • It encourages collaboration, an important 21st century skill that we strive to encourage in our students
    • Using tools like these help keep us at the forefront of technology
    • Using tools like these models a knowledge and appreciation of the types of technology we want teachers and students to be implementing*
*Students are already using a lot of Web 2.0 tools on their own! So we also want to be able to keep up with them...

Now that we know why we're learning about blogs, I want to offer a congratulations...because you're already using one!
This site is blogger.com and it is affiliated with google.
